The admissions office has done all the heavy lifting. They wouldn’t admit anyone they didn’t believe could graduate.
The reality is, if you get in, you most likely will get out. All you have to do is keep doing what you did to get in – especially what you did your junior year in HS.
HOWEVER, you will most likely get out with a lower GPA than you had going in. Accept that. And don’t worry about it.
EVERYONE knows W&M is a grind. Grad schools, employers, EVERYONE. They know how hard it is to get in and how hard it is to get out.
If a student focuses more on the experience, rather than the grades, they will be fine. If they go in looking to develop the skills to make a serious impact on the world they are inheriting, they will be given AMPLE opportunity to explore and develop.
Even though it is extremely rigorous, it is manageable and can be fun. There are great wellness resources and the community as a whole is extremely supportive.
It is not everyone’s cup of tea and sometimes it doesn’t work out for those that go. Even though they are fully prepared and considered excellent candidates, it just doesn’t work out. I hate when that happens, but there is only so much that a parent can do.
If you have any questions, or if you child does, feel free to reach out any time.
All the best,
Skip
