Gretel and Hansel

Dark. Very dark.

Interesting retelling, probably closer to some of the Brothers Grimm source material than the happily-ever-after fairy tale we grew up hearing. Major exception being the obvious role reversal.

Along those lines, I wonder what type of story it would make if you removed the sorcery and special effects, stripping it down to good versus evil, youth versus age, and conniving versus clever? Think about some of the child imprisonment stories (i.e., the Turpins); take those back to the dark ages and retell them as action/drama stories without over-embellishing them…

I could easily have waited to see this at home, but had some time to kill and saw it in the theater. Not necessary…
