Vintage Liam Neeson. Typical actioner. Nice to see January Jones in something other than Mad Men. Clever plot twists require paying attention. 7/10

Portrait of a Lady on Fire

Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Yep, this is one of those. It’s a love story. It’s set in France in the late 1700s. It’s subtitled. It’s brutal. 9/10

Missing Link

Excellent distraction from the grim realities of the day for this quarantined household. Top-notch stop motion animation. Streamed on Hulu 7/10

Onward

The latest from Pixar. Typical Pixar: above average, but nothing new and nothing to write home about. You’d probably enjoy re-watching Finding Nemo or The Invincibles or one of their other outings… 6/10

Bloodshot

Vin Diesel actioner, based on a comic book. Some interesting twists, decent graphics. With most characters caricatures, it does rely on the special effects. Eiza González brought it all; she’s got a future. 7/10

The Hunt

The Hunt was wild. Wickedly violent and no one spared. Jonathan Swift goes to Hollywood. 9/10

Emma

Absolutely delightful! Anya Taylor-Joy added an incredible depth and believability to Emma. For that matter, the entire cast was spot on. Visually stunning, well-crafted. 10/10

Color Out of Space

Nina is a huge Nick Cage fan and that’s the only reason I suggested us seeing this. Nick delivered Nick being Nick. If you’re into Nick-the-indie-film-guy, you’ll probably love it… It’s a retelling of an HP Lovecraft sci-fi piece. That should be enough: indie sci-fi featuring over-the-top Nick Cage. 2/10

The Invisible Man

The ultimate gaslighting flick. Enjoyable, entertaining, decent twists. The one thing we hated. HATED. was the volume of the music closing the movie and playing through the credits. Ridiculously loud for no good reason. 8/10

Downhill

Ironic, the movie followed the title… Typical bad Will Ferrell flick where you are uncomfortable and only waiting to see what will make you feel more uncomfortable. Simply not enough laughs to warrant calling this a “dark” comedy. Sad is the only word that works. 2/10
